Located in historic Flagstaff, the guided tour and horseback riding experts at Pot A Gold Adventures provide fun times aplenty for groups of friends, family and corporate groups that are interested in what Mother Nature has to offer! Our Flagstaff-based headquarters, Hitchin’ Post Stables, offers horseback trail rides, hay rides, wagon rides, riding lessons, summer camps for kids, our famous cowboy cookout meals, and catering for large-scale events all year round. Furthermore, provided that there is ample snowfall, we also offer sleigh rides during the winter.

At Hitchin’ Post Stables, we offer some of the most enjoyable and scenic horseback trekking and trail tour options imaginable, as well as glamour camping and other types of outdoor fun for the entire family.

Our skilled and knowledgeable wranglers provide a vast array of fun-filled activities, including:

Winter Sleigh Rides

November 20th to March 15th

This winter-based option lasts roughly one hour. After a scenic horse drawn sleigh ride through the winter wonderland of the snow-covered Coconino National Forest, we arrive at the cowboy camp area with horses trotting and sleigh bells jingling. Our trained guides create a big campfire and offer hot cocoa to keep everyone warm. After a brief rest, we load up for the return trip.

Horseback Riding Adventures

As you ride through the 10,000 acre pine forest located just south of Walnut Canyon National Monument, you will see bull elk, porcupines and bobcats in their natural element. The entire area is a non-motorized vehicle zone, which means you will be traveling through peaceful surroundings in total serenity.

Flagstaff Horseback Trail Rides

We offer horseback riding trails that last one, two, three, or four hours. This is totally dependent on how much free time you have and what you would like to see and do:

  • Our one hour trail rides will take you deep into the forest to spend a little time appreciating the ambiance of the natural environment
  • Our two hour trails allow you to dip down into a canyon opening and then up into a beautiful meadow before you return to the ranch. Essentially, you are traveling in a large loop during the trail, which means you won’t see the same thing twice!
  • The three hour horseback trail option will take you on a journey to the Fisher Point Overlook, featuring stunning views of Walnut Canyon
  • The four hour trail takes you to Fisher Point and then back down and into Walnut Canyon, where you have the opportunity of visiting a natural cave

Kids Camp

First Monday in June thru the second week in August

Hitchin’ Post Stables offers a summer camp for youngsters who want to learn more about horses. These four day programs typically run from 8am to noon Monday through Thursday. We also offer advanced classes from 1pm to 5pm. In addition, we have another kids camp located at our Phoenix-based White Tank Stables location

Cowboy Cookout Meals

If a cowboy breakfast cookout sounds good to you, or if you crave a steak or chicken dinner in the wilderness, you’ve found the right place at Hitchin’ Post Stables! We can add a hot meal to any of the wagon rides, sleigh rides or trail rides we offer:

  • Buckaroo Breakfast (Available in August) – After everyone has loaded into the wagons, we’ll head up to the Bareback Jack Outlaw Camp. Once we arrive, we treat everyone to a real cowboy breakfast before we start the cowpoke challenge, featuring games of skill to test even the wiliest of buckaroos
  • Dinner in the Pines (All Year Long) – Enjoy a delicious Grand Canyon-sized rib eye steak or some grilled and marinated chicken with all the fixins’ in the serenity of the Coconino National Forest. Available 7 days a week

Wagon Rides

March through October

We leave the main stable area and trot through the Coconino National Forest to our cowboy forest campsite. This takes approximately 30 minutes. After arriving, you will enjoy a big campfire and refreshing beverages (lemonade or tea) amongst the pine trees. You’ll have time to rest, stretch your legs, and inspect the old wagons of the campsite before we head back to our luxury dude ranch

Pumpkin Patch

All Through October

Our Flagstaff pumpkin patch awaits you and your family in October. We will have pumpkins, horse drawn hay rides, a hay maze, a petting zoo, a pony ring, and many other Fall Festival activities that your family will enjoy.

With all of the above options, we provide the bare necessities, including pack horses, tents and cooking equipment. We also offer camping pack trips, large-scale family reunions, corporate events, and big game pack trips.
